Shortly after legendary surf photographer and 30-year photo editor of SURFING Magazine Larry “Flame” Moore’s passing in October 2005 a group of friends and family formed the “Follow the Light” Foundation to ensure that Flame’s legacy of passionately supporting up-and-coming surf photographers continued. FTL has dedicated itself to honoring this next generation through an annual grant program that also included an awards presentation ceremony highlighting the work of each of the five finalists. Past honorees include some of today’s most important and talented photographers.

Due to the pandemic, FTL went on hold in 2021, but is now back and part of US Board Riders Clubs.

FTL 2022 is open to surf photographers between the ages of 16-26 from around the world who are invited to submit a portfolio of 20 of their best images for consideration by a panel of experts, including surf photo editors and past winners.

5 finalists will be selected to be considered for the grand prize of a $5,000 cash grant and a professional working opportunity with one of USBRC’s partner brands.

Each of the runners-up will receive $1,000 and have their work featured in a 30-minute television special that will air globally on FUEL TV.

The entry window will open on 1 April 2022 and will close on 31 May 2022. Judging will take place over the summer and the 2022 FTL Awards Ceremony will take place in Orange County, CA in September 2022.
